We who have lost our sense and our senses- our touch, or smell, our
vision of who we are, we who frantically force and press all things,
without rest for body and spirit, hurting our earth and injuring
ourselves: we call a halt.
We want to rest. We need to rest and allow the earth to rest. We need
to reflect and rediscover the mystery that lives in us, that is the
ground of every unique expression of life, the source of the
fascination that calls all things to communion
We declare a Sabbath, a space of quiet: for simply being and letting
be, for recovering the great, forgotten truths, for learning how to
live again.
from the UN Environmental Sabbath Program
Gently, Kindly
I call to the fearful. ashamed, self-hating and doubting in us all.
I call to the lost, deceiving, judging and grasping in us.
I call to our smallness, our meanness, our envying, our competing.
Rest now dear ones.
You are not wrong.
You are not a mistake.
You are not flawed.
There is only the forgetting.
The forgetting of our wildness.
The forgetting of our luminous beauty and goldenness.
The forgetting of our incandescent beingness.
The forgetting of our belongingness.
The forgetting of our interconnectedness.
Remember Mary Oliver’s words – ‘… you only have to let the soft animal
of your body love what it loves …’
Gently, kindly we find our way back to remembering.
Gently, kindly we find our way back to our true selves
